The invention concerns synthetic pharmaceuticals. Its subject is 3-(2-biphenylyloxy)propionic acid and 4-(2-biphenylyloxy)butyric acid which, with moderate toxicity and anti-inflammatory effect, shows significant analgesic effect. These acids are available from corresponding nitriles, either by direct acid hydrolysis, preferably phosphoric acid at temperatures of 120 to 150 degrees C, or prolonged synthesis, during which nitrile is first transformed, by the action of ethanol and hydrogen chloride, into the hydrochloride of the appropriate (ethyl)imide, that is then hydrolysed with boiling water to acid ethylester, which is finally hydrolysed, preferably with hydrochloric acid.
