<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device having a circuit board achieving a predetermined function which eliminates or reduces useless power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: This image forming device performs initialization processing of a main board when started (S11), acquires a product key acquired by displaying a predetermined input screen to a user, or its authentication result stored before (S13), then determines whether authentication is successful (S14), and switches on a power supply of a printer board (S14) only when the authentication is successful as a result of determination, to carry out initialization of communication (S15) and use start setting (S16). Afterwards, until normal processing (S17) is completed, normal processing is repeated (S18). Unless authentication is successful as a result of authentication using the product key by the main board, the power supply of the printer board is not switched on.
