These organised structures may be either fibres or membranes. According to this process, a sample of animal or human tissue, washed and asepticised beforehand, is ground in a saline solution to solubilise the collagen present in the said sample. A catalyst for reconstituting the collagen fibres is then added to the extract obtained, consisting of collagen fibrils in a minimum quantity and free from nonfibrillar collagen precipitate. After a maturing stage the reconstituted organised structures are separated from the aqueous medium by centrifuging, are washed, asepticised, packaged, freeze- dried and sterilised. Among the organised structures obtained the collagen fibres are in the isolated state, separated from their original cell tissue, in the form of a network (35) and ready for use. They exhibit a periodicity of transverse striations (37) of between 68 nm and 72 nm. <IMAGE> |
