PURPOSE:To improve the utilization efficiency of light when polarizing light emitted by a light source into linear polarized wave. CONSTITUTION:The light which is emitted by the light source 11 and made into parallel light L11 by a parabolic surface 13 is split by a polarization beam splitter 17 into a P and an S wave which are linear polarized waves. One of the linear polarized P and S waves split by the polarization beam splitter, e.g. the S wave is reflected by a 1st mirror 21, and rotated by 90 deg. by a l/4- wavelength plate 16 and a cold reflector 12 as a 2nd mirror to obtain the other P wave. Consequently, the linear polarized S wave which is normally discarded can be utilized as the P wave. The utilization efficiency of the parallel light L11 emitted by the light source 11 is therefore relatively improved. |
