PURPOSE:To superpose an emitted light on a liquid crystal light valve through a plurality of rod lens to form an image, provide a sufficient quantity of light to write, and minimize the overall unevenness in quantity of light by using, as an optical element, an image transmitting rod lens array in which a number of light focusing type rod lenses having light shielding layers on the side surfaces are two-dimensionally arranged. CONSTITUTION:In a liquid crystal light valve device for transmitting the plane image information from the write-side CRT of a liquid crystal light valve or a liquid crystal display device 2 to the liquid crystal light valve 4 through an optical element, an image transmitting rod lens array 10 in which a number of optical focusing type rod lenses 11 having light shielding layers on the side surfaces are two-dimensionally arranged is manufactured as the optical element, and this is applied to the liquid crystal light valve device. The emitted lights from the picture elements of the CRT or the liquid crystal display device 2 are superposed to form an image on the liquid crystal light valve 4 through the rod lenses 11. |
