<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal transfer sheet having high transfer sensitivity in thermal transfer prints and high sharpness in thermally transferred images and capable of obtaining high density prints and fully satisfactory print objects. <P>SOLUTION: The thermal transfer sheet comprises an undercoating layer formed of a thermoplastic resin and colloidal inorganic pigment ultrafine particles and a dye layer in that order on one side of a basic material. The undercoating layer can enhance the adhesion between the basic material and the dye layer; thus, an abnormal transfer of the dye layer into an image-receiving sheet can be avoided at the time of the thermal transfer of the thermally transferred dye image formed on the image-receiving sheet by heating together. Further, the undercoating layer is resistant against the dye from the dye layer; thus, the transfer of the dye from the dye layer to the undercoating layer can be prevented at the time of printing, leading to high transfer sensitivity and high density in prints. Further, the mold-releasability of the image receiving sheet in prints are unlikely to be degraded after storage under high-temperature and high-humidity conditions compared with cases in which the undercoating layer is composed of only colloidal inorganic pigment ultrafine particles. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
