The device has an electronic sensor (3) configured to be arranged in or on a slip ring-carbon brush (1) of an electrical machine such that an electrical supply power is locally drawn directly from an electromagnetic environment of the brush. The sensor wirelessly or optically transmits detected measurement data by electromagnetic radiation to an indication device. The sensor is electrically connected with an electrical terminal of the brush. The sensor is supplied by voltage drop produced at the brush. The brush contacts a commutator ring of the electrical machine.
