This polarizer satisfies the following formulas: 0.7 ≤ A700/A480 ≤ 1.0; A700 = −Log10{(TMD,700×TTD,700)/10,000}; and A480 = −Log10{(TMD,480×TTD,480)/10,000}. TMD,700 and TTD,700 respectively represent 700-nm wavelength transmittance obtained when the polarizer is disposed in a state such that the absorption axis of the polarizer is perpendicular to linearly polarized light of measured light, and disposed in a state such that the absorption axis is parallel. TMD,480 and TTD,480 respectively represent 480-nm wavelength transmittance obtained when the polarizer is disposed in a state such that the absorption axis of the polarizer is perpendicular to linearly polarized light of measured light, and disposed in a state such that the absorption axis is parallel.
