PURPOSE:To increase the strength of an electrolyte plate and decreasing the flow out of an electrolyte to suppress increase in internal resistance and generation of gas crossover by using materials having specified shapes in a holding material and a reinforcing material of the electrolyte plate. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte plate placed between a fuel electrode and an air electrode is constituted by impregnating a mixed alkali carbonate electrolyte in a porous body including a holding material and a reinforcing material. The holding material is made of fine particles having a mean particle size of 0.2-0.6mum, and its 80 volume percent or more is preferably occupied with particles whose particle size is within the range of + or -60% of the mean particle size, and selected from mainly lithium compounds such as lithium aluminate. The reinforcing material is made of short fibers whose mean diameter is 0.5-5mum and mean length is 50mum or less, and selected from the same material group as the holding material, but is preferable to be made of different materials each other. The ratio of the holding material to the reinforcing material in the porous body is preferable to be 5:5-9:1 in volume ratio, and the porosity is preferable to be 40-65%. These green sheet moldings are degreased and formed in porous bodies.
