PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a detergent which is excellent in storage stability and is not treated as a non-dangerous material by blending a watersoluble amide or lactone compound, a specified alkylammonium hydroxide and water. SOLUTION: This detergent is obtained by blending 65-86.89wt.% water-soluble amide compound comprising an aliphatic amide compound, such as N,N'- dimethylformamide(DMF), or a cyclic amide compound comprising, e.g. a pyrrolidone compound such as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, or a water-soluble lactone compound such asγ-butyrolactone(GBL), 0.01-15wt.% alkanolamine such as monoethanolamine, or a quaternary (lower alkyl)ammonium hydroxide of the formula (wherein R to R are each a 1-4C alkyl), 13.1-20wt.% water serving to prevent combustion, and if necessary, 1-5wt.% surfactant. A material containing adherent flux is treated with this detergent by, e.g. immersion or air bubbling in a cleaning tank at ordinary temperature to 60 deg.C to remove the flux.
