PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the optical fiber fault point detector by which a fault of an optical fiber used for the optical wavelength multiplex system is detected in a simple configuration. SOLUTION: Since a light source 57 for fault detection emits a light whose wavelength differs from a wavelength band occupied by plural optical signals and whose spectral width is equal to or more than a spectral width of the wavelength band, a reflected return light or a backward scattered light from a fault point occurred in optical fibers 53, 54 corresponds to the optical signals propagated through the optical fibers 53, 54 and a measurement device 58 detects any of the faulty optical fibers 53, 54 and a distance up to a fault point. The one light source 57 for fault detection is enough and it is not required to install an optical fiber for optical time domain reflectometer(OTDR) for plural the optical fibers 53, 54 connecting to an optical multiplexer 52, then the configuration of the detector is simplified. |
