PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase braking torques. SOLUTION: An eddy current type decelerator has a case, including an outer circumferential wall 12 close to the inner circumferential surface of a brake drum 7, a support cylinder 22 which is supported in the case and made of a nonmagnetic material, a plurality of magnets 26 which are attached to the support cylinder 22 in the circumferential direction with intervals so as to have pole planes on both their circumferential ends, pairs of ferromagnetic members 27 which are attached to the support cylinder 22, so as to be brought into tight contact with the respective pole planes of the magnets 26 and have facing planes which face the inner circumferential surfaces of the outer circumferential wall 12 and ferromagnetic members 28, which are attached to the outer circumferential wall 12 so as to correspond to the respective ferromagnetic members 27 of the support cylinder 22.
