<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication apparatus for vehicle whose lifetime is extended by reducing the power consumption of its light emitting means for establishing optical communication with another vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: Information on distance from the other vehicle is obtained from a distance sensor (step 100). Judgment is made as to whether the other vehicle exists within a specified range wherein communication can be established with its own vehicle (step 102). If it exists, judgment is made as to whether notification information to be reported to the other vehicle is inputted (step 104). If the notification information to be reported to the other vehicle is inputted, a light emitter is allowed to emit light according to the notification information (step 106). Judgment is made as to whether notification information from the other vehicle is received (step 108).
