The tool for machining plane faces at either end of a through-bore (i.e facing and back-facing) comprises a rotatable tool head (6) with two over-lappingly interconnecting transverse slots (4,5) containing a rectangular-section cutting elements which have oppositely facing cutting edges and are radially adjustable in opposite directions (by rotating shaft 18 with eccentric pins 13 at its end engaging grooves in the respective elements). The elements are in mutual contact in their central overlap area and are guided by the sides of the slot. They are additionally guided by a member (19) which is arranged in the end (25) of the tool head and has a triangular-section portion with transverse ridge in contact with correspondingly angled edge portions on the elements.
