<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing cyclobutalene under conditions not generating corrosive products such as hot hydrogen chloride. <P>SOLUTION: The production method of cyclobutalene is characterized by that an aromatic compound having a methyl group having an ether bond or a hydroxyl group and having a substituted methyl group having a methyl group or at least one hydrogen atom at the ortho position is brought into contact with a catalyst which is prepared by causing at least one element selected from among the group 1, group 2, group 3, group 4, group 5, group 6, group 7, group 8, group 9, group 10, group 11, group 12, group 13, group 14, and group 15 of the periodic table to be supported by a carrier. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
