1. Process for preparing poly[(dimethylimino)-2-butene-1,4-diyl-chloride], α-[4-[tris(2-hydroxyethyl)ammonium]-2-butenyl]-ω-[tris(2-hydroxyethyl)ammonium]-, dichloride (polyquaternium-1), wherein the process comprises the steps of:
i) preparing a solution of trans-1,4-bis(dimethylamino)-2-butene and triethanolamine in an aprotic polar solvent, ii) adding trans-1,4-dichloro-2-butene to the solution obtained in step (i) in order to obtain a reaction mixture, and iii) isolating polyquaternium-1 from the reaction mixture obtained in step (ii).
