PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for suppressing torque shock during switching of a valve working angle of an intake valve in a control device for an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: The control device for the internal combustion engine is provided with an intake valve working angle variable mechanism capable of switching the valve working angle of the intake valve to two stages. The control device for the internal combustion engine is further provided with an intake valve timing variable mechanism capable of changing valve timing of the intake valve. When the valve working angle of the intake valve is switched, the valve timing of the intake valve is controlled so that valve closing timing of the intake valve before the switching of the valve working angle of the intake valve is approximately equal to that after the switching.
