The method involves determining a movement component of a detected object from measured values (11-13, 21-23, 31, 32) of rear distributed signals by an estimate filter. A geometrical circumference of the detected object is determined by the lateral growth of population assigned to the object. Units of the population of the object are formed by the measured values of measurement assigned to the object and the lateral prediction of the object position of forerun measurement produced by the estimate filter.
