A system and a method for providing a voice mail service in a mobile communication network are provided to offer a convenient voice mail service to users at a small investment cost using an existing system by enabling a user, who is not carrying his mobile terminal, to confirm a voice message through E-mail or the Internet. A system for providing a voice mail service in a mobile communication network comprises a voice mail server(30), a called mobile terminal(12), an HLR(Home Location Register)(24), and an MSC(Mobile Switching Center)(23). The voice mail server(30) receives a voice message through the mobile communication network from a calling mobile terminal(11), stores it in a voice mail box, receives a call connection message, creates and transmits a call response message, and transmits a voice recording confirmation message or a voice message. The called mobile terminal(12) receives the voice recording confirmation message, provides the reception time and calling number of the voice message, receives the voice message through the mobile communication network, and outputs it. The HLR(24) executes service subscription, cancellation or number change processing for an associated customer according to a voice mail service subscription, cancellation or number change request from a customer management center(40). In case it is confirmed that a callee, for whom location confirmation has been requested, is a voice mail service subscriber, the HLR(24) transmits a voice mail transfer routing number for the subscriber as a location response. The MSC(23) executes a call connection with the voice mail server(30) using the voice mail transfer routing number. The MSC(23) receives the voice message from the calling mobile terminal(11), transmits it to the voice mail server(30), receives an originating message from the called mobile terminal(12), creates a call connection message, transmits it to the voice mail server(30), and executes a call connection with the voice mail server(30). Then the MSC receives the voice recording confirmation message or the voice message from the voice mail server(30) and transmits it to the called mobile terminal(12) through the mobile communication network.
