<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent penetration of oxygen and moisture into a device to increase the lifetime of devices such as light-emitting devices (OLED devices), thin-film sensors, and evanescent waveguide sensors. <P>SOLUTION: The method includes depositing a tin phosphate low liquidus temperature inorganic material on at least a portion of the device to form a deposited low liquidus temperature inorganic material 130. The deposited low liquidus temperature inorganic material is heat-treated in a substantially oxygen- and moisture-free environment to form a hermetic seal 140.
