PURPOSE: To obtain a new protein for preventing adhesion of pathogenic organism having affinity for asialo GM1 to asialo GM1, produced by a bacterium beloging to the genus Bifidobacterium, useful as a medicine for treating infectious disease, foods, reagent for biochemistry, etc. CONSTITUTION: This new protein inhibits adhesion of pathogenic organism having affinity for asialo GM1 to asialo GM1, is produced by a bacterium [e.g. Bifidobacterium longum SBT 2,928 (FERM P-10,657), etc.] belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium and has about 104,000 molecular weight measured by gel filtration method and about 52,000 molecular weight measured by SDS- PAGE method, about 5.8 isoelectric point and an N-end amino acid sequence of the formula. The protein for preventing adhesion of pathogenic organism is obtained by inoculating Bifidobacterium longum SBT2928 to a medium, culturing the bacterium, centrifuging the culture solution, collecting a supernatant liquid and separating and purifying the product of the cultured supernatant liquid. |
