PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a channel of a CS digital broadcast viewed by a television receiver. SOLUTION: A video input section 31 of a channel detector 3 receives a video signal outputted from a CS digital broadcast receiver 2 to a television receiver 1, and a monitor area extract section 32 extracts an image of a channel number display area superimposed at channel selection. A channel number detection section 33 detects a channel number included in the extracted image and provides an output of it through a data output section 34. A CS digital broadcast reception state detector 4 compares a synchronizing signal extracted from a video signal of the CS digital broadcast receiver 2 with a synchronizing signal detected from the television receiver 1 so as to detect whether or not the television receiver 1 receives the video signal from the CS digital broadcast receiver 2 and a channel number detected by the channel detector 3 is validated only when the CS digital broadcast is received.
