PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat-assist magnetic recording method suitable for increasing the capacity of a magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: This method is a heat-assist magnetic recording method having a recording magnetic film 12 including a recording object region Y and a recording prohibited region S. In this method, the recording magnetic film 12 in the region Y is heated locally by heating means 22, L while moving the heating means 22, L relatively opposing to the recording magnetic film 12, and the heating is stopped corresponding to that an opposing part of the heating means 22, L is shifted to the region S from the region Y. Also, a signal is recorded by applying a recording magnetic field Hr locally to the recording magnetic film 12 in the region Y of the magnetic field applying means 23 while moving relatively the magnetic field applying means 23 opposing to the recording magnetic film 12 with the heating means 22, L, and applying of the recording magnetic field Hr is stopped after heating by the heating means 22, L is stopped corresponding to that the opposing part of the magnetic applying means 23 is shifted to the region S from the region Y.
