The present invention provides a method and apparatus for removing a film from a container. The film (4) having a tubular shape and a self expanding and shrinking property, is first lifted at its one end from the container (1) via a film lifting means. A guiding member (14) is then interposed between the film (4) and the container (1) from the lifted one end. As the guiding member (14) is moved relative to the container (1) in an axial direction of the container (1), the film (4) is entirely cut from its one end to its opposite end by a cutting means. <MATH>
