摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-purity uniform precursor composition and a method for production thereof, and to provide a method for producing an SnTiO<SB>4</SB>-based oxide dielectric substance which can inexpensively be generated by heat-treating the composition at low temperatures, has high relative dielectric constant &epsi;<SB>r</SB>and a high value of quality coefficient Q<SB>u</SB>and is excellent in temperature stability. <P>SOLUTION: The precursor composition comprises a pyrochlore type oxide including Sn and Ti as constituent elements and is represented by the chemical formula, Sn<SB>2</SB>Ti<SB>2</SB>O<SB>6</SB>. The production method for the composition includes mixing the chloride or fluoride of tin and the chloride or alkoxide of titanium in a solvent of aqueous ammonia or potassium hydroxide solution, reacting, drying and then burning.
