PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved shredding hammer for a hammer shredder, wherein the load on the electric motor is reduced, the efficiency of drawing something to be shredded, i.e., a feed is improved, and the shearing action on the feed is increased to enable it to be finely shredded. SOLUTION: In a hammer shredder having a rotary disc 16 rotated by an external electric motor inside an outer shell provided with ports for introducing and discharging a feed and adapted so that the feed inside the external shell may be shredded by the rotation of the disc, the disc 16 has breaking faces A and C of hammers 25, a groove B acting as a hammer core surface is formed between the faces A and C, and protrusions 25 and 25 are formed on those sides of the faces A and C which are opposite to the respective hammers.
