Polyester for production of weather-resistant coatings by coil-coating

Mainly linear, aliphatic hydroxyfunctional polyesters suitable for weather-resistant coatings in the coil-coating process, with amorphous structures and glass transition temperatures of not exceeding 40 deg C are obtained by reacting dicarboxylic acid(s) and/or anhydrides with ethylene glycol-containing diol(s), possibly in combination with polyol(s). Independent claims are also included for: (a) a process for the production of the polyesters, in which the diol component is ethylene glycol or an ethylene glycol-containing mixture; (b) solvent-based coating material containing the above polyester(s) as binder, with crosslinker(s) and optionally pigments and/or fillers and/or normal paint additives; (c) a method for coating strip-like substrates in which this coating material is applied by the coil-coating process and hardened at elevated temperature; and (d) substrate strips or sheets coated with this material.
