The invention relates to a straddling dowel (10) with an expansion area. The aim of the invention is to provide a straddling dowel with a high anchoring force. To this end, the straddling dowel (10) is configured in the expansion area with two opposite peripheral wall sections (18) each of which extends across approximately 180 DEG and from which expanding ribs (20) project into the interior. The inner margins (22) of said expanding ribs form a semicircle and narrow an expansion channel (24) extending in the longitudinal direction of the straddling dowel (10) to a lenticular shape. When an expansion screw is screwed into the expansion channel (24), the straddling dowel (10) is expanded.
