1. An electromagnetic waveguide assembly comprising:
a microresonator for supporting an electromagnetic wave, the microresonator including a waveguide, a perturbative member configured to be within an evanescent region, provided by the waveguide, which extends beyond a boundary of the waveguide of the microresonator, the perturbative member configured for perturbing the electromagnetic wave, a substrate which supports the perturbative member and the microresonator, and a gap between a nearest surface of the perturbative member and a nearest surface of the microresonator, the nearest surfaces being the nearest surfaces of the respective perturbative member and the microresonator to each other; wherein the nearest surface of the microresonator to the perturbative member is curved; and wherein the microresonator is monolithically constructed on the substrate or is fixed by an adhesive to the substrate. |
