PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus using a backside of a paper shee, t on which highly confidential information is printed, as backside paper without consuming toner in the preparation of the backside paper for marking the backside paper, and enhancing an availabily of the backside paper to save on resources and reduce cost by providing an image erasing means between a paper feeding part and an image forming part, and by rotating the means while being in contact with an invalid surface image to erase at least one part of the image. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with: an image forming means for forming an image by input information from a user; a paper feeding means for feeding used transfer material with the image formed on one side of the paper to the image forming means; the image erasing means for erasing at least one part of the image by being brought into contact with the used surface with the image formed thereon on the transfer material; and an action selecting means for selecting the action of the image erasing means.
