PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an escalator step securing a gap between a step side face and a skirt guard at normal operation and closing the gap between the step side face and the skirt guard when clothing or footwear is about to be caught in the gap. SOLUTION: The escalator step 1 comprises a step board 2, a riser 3 and angles 4, and the side face of the step board 2 and the side face of the riser 3 are traveled opposing to the skirt guard. Brushes 8, 9 having gradient angles are mounted on the side faces of the step board 2 and the riser 3 while securing a predetermined gap between tips of the brushes 8, 9 and the skirt guard.
