The invention concerns a method for making norbornene from dicyclopentadiene (DPCD) and ethylene characterised in that it consists in subjecting DCPD to partial monomerisation into CPD by pre-heating: at a temperature between 140 DEG C and 240 DEG C; and under pressure from 20 to 300 bars abs., before reacting it with ethylene with an ethylene/DCPD mol ratio of 1 to 20, at a temperature between 200 DEG C and 320 DEG C; under pressure from 20 to 300 bars abs.; and a retention time of 1 to 10 minutes, in stable reaction conditions between DCPD, CPD and ethylene.
