<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a macrocyclic ester useful as an odoriferous composition or as a fixative in an odoriferous substance mixture by cyclizing a specific dicarboxylic acid-bis(glycol) ester. SOLUTION: (A) A dicarboxylic acid-bis(glycol) ester represented by formula I [(m) is 6-14; (n) is 2-6] and, as necessary, (B) an ester represented by formulae II, III and/or formula IV [(x) is >1] corresponding to the component A in aspects of the compounds up to 100 wt.% based on the component A, and (C) a glycol represented by the formula: HO-(CH2 )n -OH in a molar amount of 1-50 times based on the dicarboxylic acid component of the components A and B and (D) an inert high-boiling reactional medium in an amount of 0.1-20 times based on the sum total of the weights of the components A and B are heated in the presence (E) a catalyst in an evaporator having a large surface area at 150-350 deg.C under a reduced pressure of 0.1-500 mbar. Thereby, a macrocyclic ester represented by formula V is obtained by distilling off thereof together with the component C under separating conditions of the glycol and condensing the macrocyclic ester.</p> |
