<p>In one aspect of a preferred embodiment, the present invention comprises a system for video compression comprising a video preprocessor (120); a predictor (130) configured to receive video data from the preprocessor; and an encoder (140) configured to communicate with the predictor. Preferably, the preprocessor comprises a colorspace converter (122), a frame activity detector (126), and a subsampler (124), the predictor comprises a frame differencer (132) and a reference frame handler (134), and the encoder comprises an error image encoder (142) and an image adder (144). In other aspect, the invention comprises a system for video decompression comprising a predictor (160) and a decoder (170) configured to communicate with the predictor.
