A non-aqueous electrolyte for a secondary battery is provided to optimize the thermal and physical stability of a solid electrolyte interface layer formed on the surface of an anode, and to impart improved lifespan characteristics to a battery. A non-aqueous electrolyte for a secondary battery comprises an electrolyte salt and an electrolyte solvent, wherein the electrolyte comprises both a lactam-based compound and a sulfinyl group-containing compound. The lactam-based compound and the sulfinyl group-containing compound have a difference in the reduction potential versus lithium of 0-0.7V. The lactam-based compound includes epsilon-caprolactam, N-methyl caprolactam, N-vinyl caprolactam, N-acetyl caprolactam, N-trifluoromethyl caprolactam, N-methylsulfonyl caprolactam, delta-caprolactam and laurolactam. The sulfinyl group-containing compound includes sulfone, sulfite, sulfonate and sultone. |
