PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor drive device in which an operation region is not limited to a device at the side of a low power supply voltage, and an operation method.SOLUTION: A motor drive device comprises: two DC power sources 11A, 11B; two voltage detectors 21A, 21B; two inverters 12A, 12B; two AC motors 1A, 1B driving a common load; a rotation detector 2 for detecting rotating speeds of the AC motors; and a common control section 13 which gives current commands to the two respective inverters. The common control section 13 includes: speed control means 23 which performs control to reduce a deviation between a rotating speed detection value outputted from the rotation detector 2 and a rotating speed command; and current command distribution means 22 for distributing all the current commands outputted from the speed control means 23 to the two respective inverters 12A, 12B. In the current command distribution means 22, a distribution ratio of all the current commands to be given to an inverter connected to a DC power source in which a higher voltage out of voltages detected by the two voltage detectors 21A, 21B is detected, is set to 50% or more. |
