The invention relates to a method for producing a compound from a flowable plastic material and a solid fiber core made of reinforcing material, especially glass fiber, by extruding the plastic from an extrusion chamber. Continuous fibers made of said reinforcing material are fed to the plastic i n the extrusion chamber, whereby said fibers are already suffused with said plastic material, and the continuous fibers are mixed with the plastic in th e extrusion chamber. According to the invention, the continuous fibers are guided through a cylinder gap in order to suffuse them with the plastic, whereby said cylinder gap is formed in between a pair of wetting rollers driven in an opposite direction of rotation, and the surface thereof is coat ed with the flowable plastic material. The thickness of said coating is sufficient to fill the cylinder gap with the plastic material in a continuou s manner. The invention also relates to a device that is used to carry out the inventive method, comprising a screw-type extruder (1) that has an extrusion chamber (2) which is surrounded by a housing (8), in addition to comprising an inlet and an outlet for the plastic that is to be extruded, a side opening ( 3) for a continuous feed of fiber material, and a wetting device (4) for the infed fiber material, whereby the outlet therefor is linked to the side opening (3) for the purpose of conveyance . |
