PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader which can perform shading correction precisely even if a reading line of an image sensor used for shading correction at the time of reading a document image deviates from a predetermined criterion. SOLUTION: At a position facing a portion for reading out a document image, a polygon member having standard colors of a paper passing plane, a white plane and a black plane used when correction is performed is provided.
