The invention relates to a vibration damper, comprising a piston rod (2) which merges into a piston rod journal (4), thereby forming a bearing shoulder (6), and which guides on said piston rod journal (4) a piston valve (1) that is pretensioned against the bearing shoulder (6) of the piston rod (2). To reduce damping force scatter in series production of the vibration damper, a compensating plate (20) is placed axially between the bearing shoulder (6) and the piston valve (1), which compensating plate is made of a material having a lower yield strength in comparison to the piston rod (2) and/or a directly following component of the piston valve (1). |
