PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently absorb shock in a vehicle body limited in space and to simplify structure so as to reduce cost. SOLUTION: A housing 21 of a torque sensor 20 of transmission torque of a steering shaft 5 is connected to a body side member while supporting the steering shaft 5 in a position more distant from a steering wheel than a support column 2 of the steering shaft 5, and the column 2 is fitted to the body side member. The column 2 is displaced toward the torque sensor 20 by shock acting when a driver collides with the steering wheel. A connecting member 51 of the column 2 and sensor housing 21 spaced from each other is plastically deformed by the displacement of the column 2 caused by shock.
