PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to change the number of character display digits and the number of character display steps without degrading display grades by making it possible to selectively display fonts varying in dot numbers in spite of a light emitting display device into which a light emitting display element, a controller, a memory section, etc., are integrally incorporated. SOLUTION: The light emitting display device is constituted by incorporating the light emitting display element 2 capable of dot displaying the characters by lighting of light emitting diodes 4, the memory section 6 memorizing font information, display information and control information and the controller 7 converting the character codes included in the display information to the prescribed fonts and displaying the same in the light emitting display element 2 into the display device. The memory section 6 memorizes the font information of a plurality of kinds varying in the number of the vertical dots and/or the number of the horizontal dots. The controller 7 changes over the fonts according to the display information/and or the font assignment information included in the control information, the display digit number assignment information and/or the display step number assignment information.
