PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure with high accuracy noise indexes of optical amplifier phase-sensitive optical amplifiers.SOLUTION: By a noise index measuring method, on the basis of relative intensity noise of input light (RINin) measured on the basis of electric power obtained by photo-electric conversion of the input light inputted to an optical amplifier phase-sensitive optical amplifier, and relative intensity noise of amplified light (RINtotal) measured on the basis of electric power obtained by photo-electric conversion of the amplified light amplified by the optical amplifier phase-sensitive optical amplifier, a noise index (NF) of the optical amplifier phase-sensitive optical amplifier containing noise attributable to noise deriving from natural emission light in the optical amplifier phase-sensitive optical amplifier and excessive noise resulting from other factors than natural emission light.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
