PURPOSE:To obtain a cigarette filter material having moderate air permeability and elasticity as well as uniform and high filtering ability, and to provide a method for producing this material. CONSTITUTION:A bandlike tissue paper 1 of continuous length consisting mainly of pulp fibers most of which are oriented in the long direction is fed to upper and lower tooth rolls 2, 3, pressed by mutually engaging teeth 2a, 3a and folded in a continuous gassetted form, thereby spreading the tissue paper 1 in its width direction and disaggregating the mutually entangled fibers so as to get apart from one another from the long direction toward the width direction to impart the fibers with flexibility, thus obtaining the objective cigarette filter material having network structure with innumerable widened microvoids distributing uniformly. When this filtering material is converged into a rodlike form, it can be imparted with moderate and uniform air permeability and improved in filterability for e.g. tar owing to the evenly mutually entangled fibers. |
