The invention provides a method for data transfer in a multiple-standard network, wherein the network comprises a physical gateway ( 4 ), a sophisticated gateway ( 1 ), and a device ( 6 ). The device ( 6 ) and the physical gateway ( 4 ) are connected via a first connection ( 8 ) of a first non-IP physical data transfer standard. The physical gateway ( 4 ) and the sophisticated gateway ( 1 ) are connected via a second connection ( 7 ) of a second non-IP physical data transfer standard. Transmission data ( 11 ) that is received at said physical gateway ( 4 ) from said device ( 6 ), is transmitted to said sophisticated gateway ( 1 ). Thereby, said second connection ( 7 ) is a tunnel connection and no bus service is running on said physical gateway ( 4 ). The bus service of the first non-IP physical data transfer standard is running on said sophisticated gateway ( 1 ) thus providing the access of said device ( 6 ) to a communication layer ( 300 ).
