PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a base material including a metal wire capable of suppressing wet spreading and oozing of composition for forming a metal wire and capable of forming a high-definition metal wire on the base material, and to provide a polarization element and an electrode substrate.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a base material including a metal wire includes the steps of: (i) forming a coating film of a composition for forming a film that contains an acid-generating agent and a polymer having an acid-dissociable group on a substrate 1; (ii) irradiating a prescribed portion of the coating film with radioactive rays; (iii) providing a layer of a composition for forming a metal wire having a line width of 0.1 μm to 20 μm on the coating film that is irradiated with radioactive rays; and (iv) heating the layer of the composition for forming a metal wire to form a pattern 6 to become a metal wire. A polarization element and an electrode substrate are manufactured according to the method for manufacturing a base material including a metal wire.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
