PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield tunnel widening method for facilitating water cutoff work and improving construction efficiency. SOLUTION: According to the shield tunnel widening method, when a shield tunnel is constructed by annularly assembling segments 10 along a surface excavated by a shield machine, a widening segment 12 which can be propelled in a tunnel radial direction is incorporated beforehand in the segment 10 to be set at a location at which construction of a widened section is scheduled. Then, after the construction of the shield tunnel, the widening segment 12 is propelled from the interior of the shield tunnel toward the natural ground, to thereby form the widened section on a side portion of the shield tunnel. To this end, the plurality of widening segments 12 are arranged adjacently to each other in an axial direction of the shield tunnel to form a widening block body 16 extending over the entire length of the widened section.
