<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an SiC ceramic having higher productivity, and further having excellent mechanical properties under ordinary temperature and high temperature environments, and to provide a method for producing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The SiC ceramic is composed of a starting raw material composed of Si with the average particle diameter P<SB>s</SB>≤10 μm<SP>ϕ</SP>and amorphous C with the average particle diameter P<SB>s</SB>≤1 μm<SP>ϕ</SP>, and the relative density as that of β-SiC in a sintered compact is ≥90%. At this time, a mixture of B and C is preferably comprised as a B-C based sintering assistant. More preferably, the sintered compact having the above composition comprises carbon nanofibers of 3 to 15 vol% by an external ratio to SiC in an almost homogeneously dispersed state. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
