PURPOSE:To quickly attain a high-density material in high efficiency by placing a substance having open pores in a prescribed atmosphere, heating under pressure and depositing a solid phase in the open pores. CONSTITUTION:A specimen 6 consisting of a substance having an open pore structure such as carbon fiber/carbon composite material is placed in a pressure vessel 1 containing a heat-insulation layer 2, a heater 3 and metallic palladium powder 11. The space in the partition wall 5 is evacuated through a gas pipe 8, methane gas, etc., are introduced into the space in partition wall 5 through the pipe 8 to increase the pressure in the partition wall to >=10abs. atm., a valve 9 is closed and argon gas is introduced to the outer space of the partition wall 5 through a pipe 10 to balance the pressure between the inside and outside of the wall. The space in the reaction furnace 4 is heated at >=400 deg.C with a heater 3 and maintained at the temperature for a prescribed period, the temperature is lowered, the gas in the partition wall is exhausted by opening the valve 9 and the specimen 6 is taken out of the vessel. The pores of the material are filled with carbon deposited by the thermal decomposition of methane gas by this high-efficiency pore deposition method. The bulk density of the material is increased by about 1% compared with the original material. |
