PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer whose light source has high cooling efficiency. SOLUTION: A light-fixing device 16 is composed of a photoirradiation part 17, and a cooling part 18 for cooling the photoirradiation part 17. The photoirradiation part 17 is equipped with an LED array 19 for Y, which is used for optically fixing a thermally recorded yellow image, and an LED array 20 for M, which is used for optically fixing a thermally recorded magenta image. The light-fixing device 16 is mounted on an arm 30. The driving of the arm 30 makes an irradiation surface of the light-fixing device 16 displaced between an irradiation position wherein the irradiation surface faces a carrying passage, and a receding position to recede from the irradiation position and get away from the thermal head. Since the light-fixing device 16 is in the receding position wherein heat from a thermal head is hardly transferred except for the time when light fixation is performed, heat is efficiently radiated from the photoirradiation part 17.
