The invention relates to oxidation-stable oligothiophenes of formula (I), with one or two terminal substitutes, which are respectively bound to the oligothiophene chain by means of a quaternary carbon atom. Based on the characteristic absorption and fluorescence properties thereof, such as a large stroke shift, and based on the good controllable solubility thereof, the claimed compounds are suitable, in particular, for use in optical signal transmission systems which allow high data transmission rates, and/or as colouring agents.
